Following Jesus

Mrs. Grace Wong, wife of evangelist Caleb Wong, remembers that Dr. Joanna Tse had been coming to the Bible study since February, 2003. She said Joanna took God's Word seriously and enthusiastically, and that she was a very caring person. When brothers and sisters in Christ shared their needs, she listened patiently and attentively. She took their problems to heart and always asked about their progress. Some of our church members who are also working in Tuen Mun Hospital describes Dr. Tse as a very detailed, proactive, serious and hard-working colleague. She seldom complained or lost her temper. She had a Christian perspective and Christian values, giving hope and encouragement to her patients. Her love and passion for others, her work and God's Word became a way of life for her. We want to express gratitude to her parents and to those who brought her to the Lord and nurtured her in Christ.

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body" (Philippians 1:21-24). This scripture encapsulates Joanna's life in Christ. She lived like an apostle of Christ. We deeply believe that she is now in heaven with God, and with her husband. She is now relieved from her bustling work, entering God's rest and will be richly rewarded by God.

Dr. Joanna Tse Yuen-Man: Resting in Peace

Professionalism - a responsible worker
Noble quality - Sacrificing self for others
Unshakable faith in Christ - Everlasting Life

-- In Christ, Dr. Philemon Choi Yuen-Wen

We express deep regret and sadness upon the death of Dr. Joanna Tse. However, life is not a matter of how long we live but how we live. In a short period of just 35 years, Dr. Tse lived a beautiful life and her spirit of sacrificing herself for others deserves our highest respect. As Jesus said: "Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." Dr. Tse is like a kernel of wheat which has fallen to the ground and died, but which will definitely produce many seeds. Her death will not be in vain as we come to understand the meaning of "life" through her sacrifice and begin to re-evaluate the meaning of our lives and our values. Let's turn our grief into power, making every effort to live wonderful lives. Let's pray that the Lord will comfort her family, and that they may also see a rainbow amidst tears, receive comfort amidst their sadness and persevere amidst disappointment, because there is hope in life.

-- The Methodist Church, Rev. Lee Ping-Kwong

An enviable and honorable life.

From Dr. Joanna Tse's example, we learn about courage and what is devotion to one's job. Because of her strong faith, she was willing to serve unconditionally and voluntarily in battle. Because she was filled with the love of Jesus Christ, she could love each patient, thus winning their highest respect. Her life was colorful, abundant and overflowing with love, setting a beautiful example. She will always be remembered and may many be inspired by her motivation in life. May our loving God's grace and mercy be with her family and relatives.
